MINUTES OF MEETING 27th FEB 2025 Venue Coral Star Restaurant 10.30 to 12.30

At Venue John E, Mike, Patti, Jennifer, Glen, Richard, Irene and new member Susie

On Skype June, John G, Bob and Suzanne

Irene – The romance of the Scottish tongue.

Irene gave us examples of the same story in various types of the scotish accent, finally finishing with the English version. Food for thought.

Patti – The language of flowers

The use of flowers in romance, different ways of arranging them and presenting them, and use of different colours to send messages of love – or not!

Richard – Romance

Romance throughout life, from school kids behind the bike sheds to grab a granny nights at the community centre,

Richard’s excuse for artificial flowers on Valentines Day “They will last for ever like our love”. Really?

Suzanne The Stranger

A stranger appears at her door and sings a mournful song. She let him in and he stayed fos a year, she fed him and cared for him until he fell ill and finally passed away, It was a cat. A well written story which will appeal to animal lovers everywhere.

Glen – The New World

A vision of what the world could be like two hundred years from now. The world as we know it is totally destroyed by pollution and climate change despite mankind’s attempts to reverse the process too little – too late. Thank God we won’t be there!

JohnG – The sock in winter.

Part five of John’s trilogy on socks, very clever use of words to tell the story of socks, especially at Christmas time when newcomers appear, that usually means someone has to go!

Mike - A romantic evening

A couple celebrate their wedding anniversary with a celebration dinner accompanied by a special flower. Their dog is included, but next morning the flower has paid the price.

Jennifer – Romance.

A romantic poem covering all aspects of love and romance.

Bob – Pitching a book

Bob runs through how to approach an agent with a view to getting a book published.

A series of seven or eight books is good, his latest one has Achilles as the main man nnd has legs. Best of luck Bob.

JohnE – Romance v Reality

As a young Marine, John shares accommodation with mate they go out hunting for ladies, after quite a few drinks and a burger he meets Natalie and they share the burger, and then a taxi to take her home. A kiss on the doorstep, telephone number on his hand then home. Next morning sobered up he assesses the previous evening the reality was Natalie was one of the boys!

A lively meeting, handled quite well by John Eaton versus the machinery!!

Next weeks theme supermarket trolleys.
